Rain Collective

The Rain Collective (formerly the Keg House Collective) was formed in 2003. Many members of the collective began a collegial relationship with one another in the 1980’s and ‘90’s while working in studios in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis.

In 2004 nineteen artists came together as the Keg House Collective and a majority of the artists maintained studios in the Keg House Arts Building until May of 2007.

In 2007, the collective re-named themselves the Rain Collective and a large contingent of members moved into the Casket Arts Building on 17th Avenue NE in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The other members maintain studios throughout the city.

Kosmas+Shapiro

Kosmas+Shapiro was selected for this interactive project from among four other interactive design agencies. The primary objective for this website was to promote the Rain Collective as a whole, and each individual artist.

Pre-planning was vital. Agreeing on an overall design concept was the easy part. Information Architecture and content management required great attention to detail. We recommended a home page that listed all of the artists with an interactive roll-over which displays an image for each artist. On the artists page a thumbnail image for each artist was displayed. Both of these pages and the associated functionalities communicate the Rain Collective as entity and that each artist is a building block.

Throughout most of the project we collaborated with a three-person website committee. But, at a stage in the process we had to deal with each artist and each of their images.

Working with each artist regarding their specific works of art was both fun and challenging. Kosmas+Shapiro is proud of The Rain Collective as the second website that we’ve published.
